Small but excellent, that should be the motto of the railway museum in Zubrnice. Enthusiasts of old trains will have the time of their lives here.
The importance and development of the old railway track next to the museum is documented here. The museum is located in a farm house directly next to the old train station, which will transport you back in time.
The railway track connecting Grosspriessen and Auscha was constructed and opened at the end of the 19th century. It is 15 kilometres long and at some points has an unbelievable incline of 40 per cent.
Therefore one decided to avoid further expense factors such as tunnels and viaducts.
The track, which was used for passenger transport as well as for freight, was shut down in 1978, but used by the museum trains up until 1993.
However there are thoughts to resume service in the future. Next to an old steam train, which is being restored at the moment there are many other historical vehicles, which will enable you to experience a very special nostalgic adventure.
