Cap San Diego, Hamburg

Cap San Diego, Hamburg

As important Hanseatic city Hamburg has a swimming landmark- the Cap San Diego, which can be visited in the harbour as museums ship since 1986.
The ''white swan of the southern Atlantic'' has at last found its place of rest here, even though it is still fully seaworthy. The ship itself is very interesting, especially its equipment and functionality. Every corner can be discovered by the visitor, from the propeller shaft right at the bottom of the ship up to the bridge.
There is also the possibility to vividly relive history- that of the Cap San Diego (which only  closely escaped the fate of being burnt in a furnace in 1986 by the city of Hamburg buying it) and also the history of the Hamburg harbour and shipping.
Especially disturbing are the accounts of the wave of emigration at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century- more than 5 million people took an odyssey over the Atlantic.
