The picturesque shipping town of Lauenburg cultivates the tradition of this region in the Elbe Shipping Museum.
What started in 1926 as a small local museum and in 1960 began to cover the topic of shipping due to the 700 year jubilee of the town, is today an important, national Elbe Shipping Museum. The museum shows the development of shipping on the Elbe, in its whole course from Bohemia to its estuary at the North Sea.
Original pieces, models and original engines will let the hearts of shipping enthusiasts beat faster.
The permanent exhibition of paintings from the 19th and 20th century is especially worthwhile and complemented by special exhibitions showing old portraits and paintings of ships.
Next to the archive of technical drawings, special literature and photos this is a useful and interesting addition.
