Over the north Bohemian town Decin ,directly in the centre over the confluence of Plounice and Elbe on a ledge lies the castle Decin.
Today the castle is owned by the town, but ever since the 10th century it served different members of the aristocracy as their centre of power.
The family Thun-Hauenstein resided here from 1628 to 1932 up until the castle had to be sold to the Czech state due to financial problems.
Nevertheless, the glorious past has left its marks. The banqueting rooms and the castle chapel still echo the splendour of days long gone.
However the building is also used practically: A museum and an archive have found their place in the castle halls.
The beautiful rose garden with a tea pavilion and an arbour invites you to linger, stroll an get lost in your thoughts.
