Albrechtsburg Castle, Meißen

Albrechtsburg Castle

Meißen porcelain is present in the whole town, not only can you marvel at it in the porcelain factory, but also in Castle Albrechtsburg. However, the exhibition about the „white gold“ is only one of many reasons to visit Castle Albrechtsburg.
The architecture of the Castle for example is extremely impressive: The late Gothic style with its so-called arched curtain windows and a unique play of light and shadow.
The castle was founded in 929 by King Heinrich I.. In the 15th century the splendid castle was built as new residence for the margrave brothers Wettin.
However it is noticeable that the castle has remained unscathed by modern changes. Today it still presents itself as completely Gothic building with 19th century furnishings.
The large historical wall paintings, which were created in the 19th century, are especially beautiful.
Next to the regular tours of the castle, visitors have the possibility to visit exciting themed tours outside of the opening hours.
